Hello, everyone! I've noticed a lot of new people and have heard comments in our shoutbox about not knowing how to find things here. So I thought I would write this little guide about the basics of internet forums to help people out. I'm not a forum admin or anything like that. I'm just a member and I love to spend time here.
Okay, so what is this forum anyway and how does it work? To break it all down to the simplest terms, a forum works sort of like a book. It has chapters -Announcements, Polls, and New Players for example. Each chapter has its own mini-chapters. But this book isn't ever finished and it is constantly being added to by many different authors.
Forums are websites created so people with the same interests can talk about that subject in detail and share their thoughts with others. Forums are a great place for ideas and stories, a place to offer help to others who might be stuck on something or who have a question.
To move around the forum, you click on the blue colored words. These are links just like any Google or Bing might find for you when you do a search. Clicking a link brings you to that page. Let's take a look at General Discussion. When you hover your mouse cursor over General Discussion, the words and the box turn a lovely shade of purple and General Discussion gets underlined. Click on General Discussion and you open a page to all the topics found there.
Welcome to General Discussion! At the top is the all important, all mystical, Codes Thread. You can see that it is 22 pages long. It's very popular! But there are many other interesting topics to be found here too. Threads are also called subjects or you can call them topics. All members of the forum can create Threads/Subjects about the things they want to talk about.
All members can also comment in other people's threads/subjects too. This is how a thread grows. Just watch out that you don't create the same thread twice. Somebody may have already written about the same thing. Add your thoughts to their thread instead and always read the posts above you to see what others have said. If someone has made the same comment as you, you can always agree with them or add in something new.
All new people should visit the Forum Rules section and read the rules. It's just good manners really. Just throwing that out there because it is important.
So explore the forum. Click on things. You can always return to the main page by clicking Home, which is right under the lovely picture at the top of the page or use your browser's back button. Enjoy reading what people have posted here. There are a lot of wonderful ideas floating around. And if you have a question, ask. Post that question right here in this thread if you like, or use the shoutbox. Someone will answer you as soon as they can.
Once again, welcome to the Star Stable Forums. We hope you enjoy your time here.
