Summary: 10 years after the defeat of Dark Core, Kate Easthill thought she had enough adventures for a lifetime. But when a chance to compete on The Olympic Equestrian team is up for grabs, Kate's world is thrown into turmoil once more. However an accident during a competition leaves Kate in hospital and her star horse unable to ever compete again it seems everything Kate ever dreamed for is slipping away. Kate takes on a wild Thoroughbred filly everyone else had given up on, she sees a future champion inside. But with Kate still recovering from her injuries and the filly unable to be handled it seems like an impossible talk. Can Kate break through to the filly and earn international fame in the eventing world? Both horse and rider must rehabilitate each other, both must give each other their second chance.
Kate slumped back on a haybale and exhaled, she been working since dawn cleaning up her new propety on the outskirts of New Hillcrest. Run down
and abandoned the place was overgrown with weeds and covered in cobwebs, Kate decided to follow her dream of becoming a professional rider and trainer
thinking the place would be perfect after a cleanup for training and housing her horses, Kate handed over the 500,000 shillings to buy
the land off the council and began the task of cleaning it up and repairing the stable block. She sent most of her horses to Horse Land
while the work was in progress, only one remained-Peppermint a Jorvik Warmblood mare was being boarded at a nearby stable. With horses
being Jorvik's most reliable transport due to cars being able to manage the wild terrain she knew she had to keep at least one mount around.
A black and white bombay cat jumped up beside her and purred, the bell on his blue collar jingled as he rubbed his head against Kate's side.
"Hey there, Puma." Kate greeted her beloved cat and rubbed him behind the ears "No said it would be easy, but no one said I would be dead on my feet either."
Puma let out a low meow tipping his head to the side.
"I know..I got myself into it." Kate grumbled scooping up the cat "I get myself into a lot a things, sometimes without even meaning too."
Kate closed her eyes and remembered first arriving in Jorvik 10 years ago as a young girl to attend Summer camp at Moorland Stables. She got more
then a Summer camp though, she discovered she was a Soul Rider, having control of all four powers. She reunited the group and bought light back to what
all was thought lost.
The now adult Kate still couldn't believe it all actually happened to her, it felt like a dream or something from one of the books she
spent many hours reading as a child. But it was all too real. Kate pulled at her brown blond ponytail gently stroking Puma "My destiny was
sealed the moment I stepped into those stable gates. Though I owe much to the other Soul Riders, we really pulled through on the end."
Kate glanced at her watch, it was just about lunch time. "Say, Puma. How about a quick stop at the Cafe then we can go out for a ride on Pep?
If you still fit in the saddle bag anyway, you have been eating an awful lot of tuna lately." Kate chuckled grasping the cat gentely and sitting up.
"Could ride down to South Hoof, see how those wild ponies are doing."
Puma meowed and jumped down allowing Kate to stand up, she glanced down at herself and chuckled "Maybe I should clean up a bit first, I'm dirty
even for a stable." Kate was covered in dust and cobwebs from the attic.
Kate walked into her old farmhouse, Puma at her heels. Entering she looked around her home that was slowly taking shape. She walked slowly up a set of stairs leading
to what she made her bedroom, she had already set out a pair of clean jodphurs and a freshly pressed polo shirt on the end of her bed.
Quickly she changed her clothes and grabbed her smooth black riding helmet.
She called for Puma and left her house locking the door behind her, she bent down and allowed Puma to jump aboard and began walking to town, upon
reaching town she was greeted by the neighs of a herd of Icelandic horses up for sale in the town square, an older woman was talking to a young girl
sanding next to a black Icelandic gelding with mischief gleaming in his eyes.
Walking past the horse markets, Kate entered the Cafe, grabbing a salad roll. She took a bite out of it and began the walk down the road
to New Hillcrest Stables where Peppermint was being boarded for the time being.
She stopped as she arrived in front of the barn and took a deep breath taking it the sweet horse scent. Snuffing the last of the roll into her mouth,
she tossed the wrapper into a nearby bin and entered the stable block, she quickly walked down the aisle until a familiar head poked out.
"Hey, Pep girl." Kate greeted hugging her mares neck.
Puma jumped down and sat on top of the stall door, using his long tail to keep his balance. He purred and rubbed Peppermint on her dappled face.
Peppermint snorting softly in greeting of the cat and stomped her foot knowing what was coming.
Kate entered the stall carrying a grooming kit, careful to knock Puma off she slowly closed the stall behind her and got to work on Peppermint's
smooth grey coat. As she groomed she felt for any cuts, bruises or lumps on Peppermint's body. Relieved after finding none she left the tall and
returned with tack, placing the blue and white saddle pad across her horses back, she smoothed out any wrinkles before placing the saddle.
She did the girth up making sure it wasn't too tight or too loose before attaching the slightly ratty saddlebag for Puma to ride it. Last of all
was the bridle, she slipped the bit into the mares mouth and drew the rest over her ears before doing up the throatlatch.
Puma came up beside her purring knowing.
Kate picked up the cat and placed him gently in the saddlebag before leading the horse out of the barn and into the mainyard. After a quick check
of all her tack she put her foot in the stirrup and mounted. Gathering up her reins she gave Peppermint a almost invisble cue to
begin walking, she turned towards the bridge that run over the water that split the water from the Epona region from South Hoof Peninsula.
Behind them they left the hussle and bussle of New Hillcrest and entered the untouched by man peninsula.
Home of the wild horses.
As you realized this story takes place after the game but in the game world with game characters.
Yes Puma will be in this story alot, as I am a crazy cat lady.
I should say this story will be a bit dark later, if you're under 13 read at your own risk. I warned you. I don't write fluff stories, sorry.
