So we all know that ponies only get the one championship to themselves. No big horses allowed. But ponies are allowed to run any other champ they please against their larger (slightly in some cases) equine bretheren. Now a pony has a slim chance to win in a field of horses, not impossible, but probably not probable either.
Now last night, I did just that with Maja Windward and another friend, with Maja and I riding level one ponies acquired just for this purpose. Sunflower is a Chincoteague of the brown and white persuasion and yes I bought her that sunflower head decoration because of obvious reasons. And it was a blast! Sunflower was quick on her hooves for her level. I have never felt so relaxed and free in a championship race and one I have never run before too. It was simply brilliant! And I really didn't care how well or bad I did.
Now, we didn't do this without some kerfuffle from other players. One thought it absolute madness that we would we even enter on a pony. Get a bigger horse, she said, something high level, you might win a ribbon. We were in it for fun, Maja replied. Remember fun, another player said and was echoed by another two players.
But then I got an idea: If ponies can run any champ alongside their bigger cousins, why not break them off into their own groups. The game already recognizes player level and horse level and sorts players according to such things into race groups, right? So why not have race groups pared down further to sort by steed type. People on horses get sorted out into their groups and people on ponies get sorted into their groups. And maybe their is a winner and placers for each group too. This way, ponies get more championship options and players get more options to race and ride how they choose.
I'm gonna shuffle this idea off to SSO sometime this week but I wanted to see what the forum members thought of this idea before I did.
