This is gonna be a little bit ranty, but I also want this to be a discussion where you guys can perhaps talk about your experiences as well, and it's ok if you do disagree with me.
Ok, so I have always been a bit of a loner on SSO, just due to the fact that my experiences with clubs have always been bad.
Previously, on a different game I used to be in a clan, and I have very fond memories of that clan because we became actual friends. I was very young and I was bullied at school so it was really cool to have a big group of friends that didn't judge me and just genuinely wanted to be friends.
I still remember all the inside jokes, all the conversations. I even remember how I used to be awful at English and I'd constantly ask questions about how to say stuff properly. I even have really old screenshots that I took. Nowadays, I only speak with one of person out of that whole group that used to be on the clan with me. Even if I don't speak to them anymore, I'm still very thankful that they were part of my life, because at one point in time they were my escape and they made my life better. In this clan, you'd be active if you wanted to, you'd be on a call if you wanted to, no pressure. If you wanted to join an event, then cool, if not, then cool. It was very chill and an experience and memories I'll cherish forever.
With SSO, however, I was never able to be comfortable enough to have that same experience with clubs. I just wish people would understand that online clubs are online clubs and nothing more. It is essencially a big group of people with the same tastes playing the same game together. It's not something to be taken as seriously as most club owners take it.
I just cannot seem to have fun with any of the clubs I have joined so far, because of all the (frankly) stupid requirements.
Some of us just want to join a club for fun. I'm not spending my money on a horse or clothes that I do not want. If I'm not active, I'm not going to justify to you, a stranger online, why I haven't been on an online game. If I'm not comfortable being on a call, then I won't be on a call because I literally don't know you. It's frankly creepy to me how discord is a requirement in some clubs. Some people are really out here asking children to join a call with a stranger online?? If you're of age, and you're comfortable with being on calls, that's amazing, but a lot of the people that are active in clubs are minors and the fact that discord is a requirement is ridiculous, in my personal opinion.
It's ridiculous the amount of time people expect you to put into an online club, over your real life. But even if you do play the game all day but don't feel like going to an event on that particular day even though you'd still like to be online playing, that should NOT be an issue. I don't understand where this idea of being there for every event came from. I've been online since I was around 9/10 years old, I'm now 18, 19 in a couple months, and I've never seen clubs/clans/guilds on other games be the way SSO clubs are. Sometimes, I just want to log in and be alone, and I don't think that should be an issue.
What inspired this post was a recent experience that I had with a club, and I feel like it's a relevant experience to this, so I'm gonna tell you what happened.
A couple months back, I joined a club for fun as I had seen their IG page and they seemed like a fun interesting club, and I needed something to spice up the game a bit. I went to maybe 3 events before taking a break from playing, due to important life events and burnout from the game. I did like the leaders, so out of consideration, I told them that I'd probably be inactive for a while. Maybe around two weeks passed, and I received a discord message from the owner saying that it was a "warning" (which I always laugh at) with a message stating that "Although we have no problem with members becoming inactive, we do require all members to always let either me [insert name here] or [insert name here] know about their situation.", that's literally verbatim the message the owner sent me, and they then proceeded to tell me that I needed to fill a form detailing the reasons as to why I haven't been online. They also told me that it would "break their heart" if they had to "take action" (this also makes me laugh lol) against me, and that it was "super important" for me to attend events every week, and that I should see that message as a second chance, lol. I guess they're not ok with inactivity, even though they literally said so.
Now, what possesses people to think people owe them, strangers online, any sort of explanation as to why we haven't been online? Seriously??? And why does inactivity equal a strike? Stuff like bullying, racism, transphobia, creating drama, etc ect are the only things that should ever equal strikes and being kicked out.
I did fill in the form just because I didn't want to create drama, and as I said, so far the experience had been good and I did like the owners and the members. I filled the form, keeping it as vague as possible. However, one thing I made very clear was that I wasn't gonna be online for a couple months, so I tought that I didn't need to worry, and I thought the leaders were ok with it, as they stated. Looking back, I should have politely told them to kick rocks, but oh well. Fast forward 2/3 months, this week I wanted to go online to check out the latest updates and when I logged in, I was clubless.
I don't mind being kicked out, what made me mad was the fact that they didn't even say anything (I'm literally still on the discord sever and they could have sent me a message both in-game and on discord) and the fact that something they said they were ok with was the reason as to why they decided to kick me out.
People have forgotten what it is that the clubs are for, and that is to have fun with people who also enjoy the game. I was watching a video of someone buying club outfits and this person literally bought 2 different horses and 3 different outfits and it stated on the discord that members needed to get those horses and items within two months. Many people don't buy SC, so some of us can only save through the weekly allowance - 2 months of weekly allowance is 800 SC, which means that it would literally be impossible for people to get those items and horses in two months.
I feel like the only way I'd ever join a club again is if I had any irl friends to play the game with (which I don't unfortunately), and who I could create a club with, or if I manage find a chill club, which nowadays seems impossible. And that makes me sad, because seeing other people do fun things with their clubs makes me want to be in a club, but with the experiences I've had and with the way clubs are nowadays, I would rather play alone.
I guess I have a lot more to say, but I think that's enough for now. Thank you for reading, and I'm sorry if there's any mistakes in what I wrote. And tell me your opinion and experiences as well, I'd love to hear it.
