As any horse lover knows, bits are rather abusive. They pinch a nerve in the horse's muzzle called the trimingal nerve, which results in an extremely painful experience for the horse. As a result, the horse shakes, bobs, and constantly opens and closes his or her mouth in a fruitless attempt to relieve this pain. Further behavioral issues can and do happen, including balking, rearing, and refusal to listen to their riders commands. The "old fashioned" solution (and in reality, the more barbaric one) was more tack, more bits, more force, and that only escalates the problem.
Some equestrian sports require the use of bits, and in the case of Dressage, there may be two of these devilish devices in the poor horse's mouth, causing even more anguish and pain. This is one reason I don't like dressage. Sure, it looks "cool" and all, but is your horse really enjoying those two pieces of cold hard steel tugging on their cheeks and causing them excruciating pain, while simultaneously being forced to preform movements that are both unnatural, and uncomfortable, just for the aesthetic amusement of humans? Yeah, I have issues with this so called "sport". Sorry if it offends anyone. I am not out to be offensive here, so please don't take to flaming me. I'm not looking for drama. I'm only looking out for horse welfare.
This is why I am advocating the creation and use of bit-less bridles in the game. We are supposed to be so in tune with our equine friends on this game that we can share their thoughts and feelings at times. Why then, would we be using such a horrendous item like a bit on them?
Please ask SSO to add bit-less bridles into the game, not just because it should have been added from the start, but because it'll send a huge statement to the many who play it that bits are only trouble, and serve no other purpose than to harm the horse, forcing pain on him/her.
Here is Sylvie Mistream's video on why we should have bit-less bridles in SSO, though I must warn you, the contents may be a bit disturbing for more sensitive viewers. Please watch at your own discretion.
