I recently tried dressage in game for the first time and found it to be fun and challenging, so I thought I'd see if our collective minds here could work through some things.
Firstly, from those who are fans of dressage in game, what are the various dressage moves that can be done in game as things stand now? The girl who was teaching me told me about ntt line, cut, dye, curl, and other moves I can't recall off the top of my head. Could someone list them, please, and try to explain what they are?
It would be easy enough to incorporate dressage into quests, but what about dressage competitions in game? How do you envision that being done?
I can see a solo version easy enough but what about individual scoring in a group competition? How might that be accomplished? Let's think this through and give SSO some ideas!
My thoughts so far:
Solo competitions:
Like the daily races now, a horse and rider could do solo dressage. That would entail an NPC instructor who calls out the moves (which would not be in a repeated pattern, so players could not memorize the routine-- rather, it would be a test of recognizing the command and executing it in as timely and smooth a fashion as possible). The command or an icon of it would likely appear at the top of the player screen to simulate them "hearing" the instructor calling out the moves. Scoring would be on how quickly and accurately the player responds to the command. Points would be deducted for breaking gait, deviating from the pattern, etc. These could be done daily, as with the daily races. There would be a high score board and prize, just as with the daily races.
Solo Scoring in group: The equivalent of the champs races.
A group of players would be competing at the same time, performing the moves together, but scoring would be done on an individual basis, similar to how it is done for the solo competitions. Yes, that means other players messing up could cause you to mess up, just as other players can distract you in a championship race. This would be trickier because of that. I can see lots of potential issues with this.
Group Competitions: Clubs and other groups can practice together and compete!
Unlike group races, this would be for points and prizes, not just for fun. Groups would be judged on how well they perform as a group. Scoring as above, but not on an individual basis. Rather, on how well the group as a whole executes the moves. How smoothly does *everyone* follow instructions? Does everyone stay in pattern or is the pattern broken by any rider? Are the moves executed in sync or are some players slower to perform the moves?
Just some of my thoughts. What do you guys think? Let's give SSO some ideas on how to go about putting this into game!
