I completely agree with what you wrote, Maja.
I also got that same feeling Nina got. And I think SSO is always been too soft, it's like they can't take whining kids' cries at all, and made the game easier every time some brat has started crying about something (let's take examples - G.E.D Reputation, Hermit Reputation). All the players who are willing to work towards a goal will have value of their work reduced to zero, all because SSO is trying to keep lazy kids not from crying at them. The question is - does that serve anyone? Whiny, lazy players will learn that they get what they want if they just cry about it long enough, SSO itself loses some of its authority over players and hardworking players are being very bummed.
Unfortunately, based on those experiences, I have a fear SSO might still not have "enough balls" to take very harsh actions - even though this time things are cold serious - and that fear is being amplified when reading their answer to you Maja.
And as you said Maja, this goes far beyond scores and ribbons now, we actually couldn't care less about those things right now. This is a million dollar chance for the game staff to finally gain their authority over players, and also get rid most of those shameless cheaters who have also previously been taken advantages from lagging (at least in my server, they still were first ones on lists), as for them it's probably not a huge step to knowingly use this kind of glitches to cheat on races. And also this is a million dollar chance to gain back our complete trust.
And also - why the heck those glitchers are still around. Why it takes this long to take actions to prevent any glitching? Any other game company would've probably had everything sorted out a long time ago. Either their programmers are unprofessional, the code of the game is one huge mess, or they are really not putting enough effort into this even though they try to look like it. The second option looks probable, because there is some things and emerging glitches that just don't make any sense at all at times. Wouldn't want to believe other two options, but they're possibilities, too. Unfortunately.
This sounds so angry of me, but I can't really help myself - I've had no trust for SSO team for a long time anymore. :/
