But why should the game punish players for not playing? For many people it’s simply not possible to play daily or even several times a week. At the moment, the way the care system is set up even if you were to care for you horses on the day you did log in, if you don’t continue to log in every day after that you horse remains slow so there’s no point.
And yes, I know you can pay for stable care, but why should I have to use up nearly half of my weekly SC allowance when I’m not even able to get on the game every week to benefit from having normal speed horses?
Every sort of MMO has some sort of "punishment" for people who cannot log in everyday. You get behind on things or other items are affected. Games want their players to play and in the lull between content they have to do something to get players to log in. For SSO it's keeping your horse's happy so they can go fast--even if you don't partake in comps.
I think part of the rift here is I've played multiple games where if you wanted something done to recover or take a short cut or make something easier or have a new cosmetic item you had to pay money every. single. time. SSO gives you a free, FREE allowance every week of their premium currency. Essentially for FREE you can take care of your horses for a whole week. FREE. Or save up and get a new horse for your 8 bucks a month or your one time pay with FREE star coins instead of forcing you to buy some if you really want the horse.
It's not the game's fault you can't log in everyday, it's just how it is. Why should your horses be happy when you haven't logged in X amount of days, while other people have logged in every day and done the chores. It's not fair to those who put the work in it everyday.
I'm not saying that the system couldn't use improvement. I'm just saying this is the game's ONLY way to convince people to log in everyday at the moment and if you cant log in, and you're not willing to use FREE star coins, then you're just going to have to deal with the "punishment". Just like every other MMO where you'd get behind people who play everyday.
And when you talk about other games that charge money for short cuts or to make things easier, the MMO that I've been playing for the past 13 years doesn't offer anything like this for real money. Yes, there are purchases that you can make, but they're strictly cosmetic and have no effect on game play. And it offers ways in game through currency earned in the game to add a boost to your experience and/or reputation. You actually even get a bit of a bonus for not logging in since you earn rested experience if you're not at max level. And most developers of MMO's understand that there generally two types of players - casual and competitive/hardcore and they know how to properly balance their game as to not cater to one group.
I get that SSO may do this because they want players to log in regularly, but this "lull" you mention has been going on for over a year and they can't really be naive enough to think players are going to log in daily just to care for horses in game that they're not playing because there's absolutely nothing to do. That's such a waste of SC or in game food. The better option is to let your SC pile up and hopefully in time you'll have a reason to log in and spend them. Having said all that, I have a feeling this is going to be one of those situations where we'll just have to agree to disagree.
