Male Characters In-Game?

I see both sides of things, but I may be biased a bit. There are fewer games out there that targeted towards girls, so I feel like SSO is very much needed in this way. When games like GTA, Fallout, and other shooty-shooty-pointy-pointy games dominate the market, girls can play them, but not all girls will want to. I like girly games and always have. They relax me and make me feel happy! Though when my hubby tried to join, it was a tad frustrating trying to make him look like a guy and epically failing, lol. We managed! We even gave him a funny male name.


Yeah, I think this is fair.

In my opinion it is such a stereotyped way of seeing things, saying that just because you add male characters to a game, dating is gonna start happening.
Dating can happen even between two girls, so I find this argument invalid by far. If people want to date, they will, anywhere.
Male characters or not.

There is nothing wrong with "being a girl", but then what's wrong with being a guy?
I see no reason why male characters should not be added. There isn't even a "need" to rewrite the lore and story, they can just start writing differently after adding the male avatars.
Saying that girls are being harassed on the internet and whatnot? Well, guys also. Everyone.
So to say that SSO is a "safe place" for girls, eh...

Horses aren't just for girls, a lot of guys also love Horses. And sadly most horse games out there are not even online, just offline games that you play alone (and surprise, most of them only have female characters as an option).
So the argument "99% of games had only male characters as an option" is barely valid if at all.

And saying "If boys want to play it, they have to just roll with the fact that they will be a girl in-game", you mean, they have to roll with that fact again? How many horse games give you the option to play as a male? Barely any.
How many horse games are there out there, that are Online, and give you the option to play as a guy? One. And it's not even Open world like SSO, doesn't have as many horse breeds at all, just isn't as polished and nowhere near as big.

SSO is a MMORPG, not just a "RPG". Most MMORPGs (I haven't played a single one that does not) give people the option to be a male or female. RPGs don't necessarily.
Is Star Stable only RPG? No.
So I don't see why the option was never considered, and still isn't.

Sometimes I feel like the main reason to not add male characters is simply being sexist and nothing else.

It'd be so great if male avatars could easily be brought into the game. I could even consider playing as a male because I play so many games which are designed for girls that I often opt for a male character if possible. However, since everything, the whole game, is written and built from a girl's perpective, it'd be too much for the team. Perhaps in the future this could be happening, when SSO has grown even more as a game and as a company, but right now I doubt they have the money for doing this. But of course you can never know; maybe this is one of the main updates to happen this year? I mean it'd be so cool to have a horse game with male characters. (Although I'd also be worried about all the dating and PG-13 subjects that would increase, but like someone already stated here, if kids want to date in a game, they'll do it regardless of the gender of the avatar. I've already seen so many roleplays where people purposefully seek male characters to be love interests in the rp.)

But right now I agree with the rest of you: Men just have to roll with it. Either you play the game as a girl or you don't play it at all. Additonally, I think this is kinda bringing us to the core problem when talking about the image on women: According to the society, men are strong and tough and women are weak and sensitive, so playing with a male avatar is ok regardless of gender but playing as a female is unacceptable if you're a male. If you're a male and play as a female, depending on the game you are either a) a perv, if the female avatar has large breasts and the armor/clothes are revealing or b) a "sissy". This is not sad only because of the image on women, but also because it makes men feel like they aren't allowed to be weak or sensitive. Because duh, that's feminine and if you're a feminine male, you're probably gay.

I knew I should have used quote marks or something, because you obviously missed my point. I was being sarcastic. You're attacking me as if I was the one thinking men are weak or aren't allowed to play as a female. I was talking from society's point of view, how a majority of people think it's weird if a male person wants to play as a female or how majority of people think feminine men aren't men.

I'm sorry I didn't think this through, I thought everyone here would understand I was being sarcastic but seems like not. Maybe I'm just too sarcastic a person to realise that not everyone understands it.

It is true that not everything is possible to acknowledge from written text, but I thought since I started the sarcastic part with "According to the society, - - " no one would confuse them with my personal opinions. But it's okay, it was a mistake and you better know now that I don't agree with any of those things I listed at the end of my first post. :)

But what about for all the guys out there? How do you think they feel? In my opinion being a girl irl and playing a guy in game is easy but the other way around is ummm tricky. My brother he uh tried it and let's just say he wasn't comfortable with it.
